COMPOSITIONS

This presentation brings together works that embody Georges-Emmanuel Schneider’s concept of the Augmented Violin: pieces conceived and composed or co-composed by him, rooted in his own translation of visual thinking into sound. Each work presents the violin as an instrument while expanding its technical possibilities beyond its traditional boundaries, drawing on a lifelong dialogue with many different musical worlds and synthesizing them into a distinct stylistic language.

MALAGASY BREATH

Malagasy Breath is a co-composition by Rajesh Mehta, Georges-Emmanuel Schneider and the other members of the Sky Cage Quartet. The work is built around recordings of the calling sounds of Indri lemurs from Madagascar, incorporating their voices into a musical dialogue with the quartet’s instruments.

The composition explores the relationship between human music and the rhythmic and sonic language of another species, bringing together acoustic instruments, electronics and the haunting calls of the endangered lemurs.

ERIK SATIE VEXATIONS -
UN THÉÂTRE ACOUSTIQUE

This project is a reworking of Erik Satie’s composition, created by Georges-Emmanuel Schneider and Esther Kretzinger as part of REER PROJECT. Rather than focusing on Satie’s later association with minimalism and ambient music, the work explores his connections to absurdism, satire, nightlife and Dadaism.

The composition transforms Satie’s repetitive musical material into a dense collage of avant-garde, jazz, techno and electroacoustic elements.
