GEORGES-EMMANUEL SCHNEIDER
INCARNATIONS OF THE UNBOUND
RELEASE EXPECTED: 2027
Incarnations of the Unbound goes back to Sound of a Poem, an album released by Esther Kretzinger in 2017, to whose musical concept and content I contributed. The idea developed during our work in 2015–16 and was based on the close relationship between the harmonic language of late Romantic music and jazz. Selected works from the late Romantic Lied repertoire were reworked for a jazz ensemble and realised together with Tim Collins, Wayne Darling and Gerald Endstrasser.
Several years later, while on tour in Taiwan and China, I returned to the idea and began taking it in a different direction. The jazz arrangements gave way to minimalist electronic music, with elements moving towards ambient. By then, The Augmented Violin was also taking shape as a concept, allowing me to bring the violin into a new electronic context and to explore the original material from a different perspective.
The first two pieces to emerge from this process are minimalist electronic reinterpretations of Joseph Marx’s Waldseligkeit and Stille Nacht. They now serve as pilot pieces for a larger collection of reworked tracks from the classical repertoire, yet to be produced.
The collection is currently in development and is planned for release in 2027.
