GEORGES-EMMANUEL SCHNEIDER
ARCHIVE
Before developing his current work with electronics, sound processing and experimental music, Georges-Emmanuel Schneider built an international career as a classical violinist. After eight years of study with the legendary violinist Ruggiero Ricci at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, he performed as a soloist and chamber musician across Europe and internationally, with a particular focus on late Romantic and contemporary music. His work brought him into contact with composers and musicians including Pascal Dusapin, Toshio Hosokawa, Sir Harrison Birtwistle, Matthias Spahlinger, Johannes Kalitzke, Franck Ollu, Beat Furrer, Rohan de Saram and Marianne Schröder. His recording of Bartók’s Solo Sonata, released by Classic Concert Records, received a Clef award from ResMusica in 2011.
This archive brings together concert recordings, photographs and other documents from that period, offering a glimpse into his work as a classical violinist and the musical foundations on which his later work has been built.
