GEORGES-EMMANUEL SCHNEIDER
PARK AM SEE (MIT HÄUSERN)
Park am See (mit Häusern) is one of my earliest independent compositions. The piece was written in 2018 for Materialausgabe, a concert series initiated and organised by Dieter Trüstedt and the Echtzeithalle in Munich. For this edition, the musicians were invited to choose works by Paul Klee from the catalogue Paul Klee. Landschaften, which accompanied an exhibition at the Franz Marc Museum in Kochel. Dieter Trüstedt suggested Klee’s Park am See (mit Häusern) to me as the starting point for my contribution.
The resulting piece is quiet and introspective. It already hints at the wide range of sounds and techniques that would later become part of my musical setup, while the sound material itself remains comparatively simple. Ambient music, jazz and contemporary music were still strong influences at this stage, and the piece reflects the way these different elements were beginning to come together in my work.
Growing directly out of my perception of Klee’s painting, the composition became an early exploration of the relationship between visual material, electronic sound and the violin that would continue to develop in my later work.
