PROJECTS

This is a presentation of works where you can experience Georges-Emmanuel Schneider's concept of Augmented Violin: pieces conceived and composed or co-composed by him, rooted in his own translation of visual thinking into sound. Each work displays the violin as an instrument while expanding it technically beyond its traditional boundaries — drawing from a lifelong dialogue with many different musical worlds and synthesizing them into one distinct stylistic result.

EDEN WEINT IM GRAB

Eden Weint im Grab is a German Dark Metal band led by Sascha Blach. Its music combines elements of Gothic Metal and Black Metal with German lyrics, theatrical imagery and stories of death, the supernatural and otherworldly realms. Georges joined the band as his alter ego Le Batelier, bringing the violin into the music as a haunting and lyrical dimension.

Beyond the music itself, Eden Weint im Grab allows Georges to explore the theatrical and immersive dimension of Metal and the alternate realities it can create for both performers and audiences. Le Batelier is conceived as a kind of ferryman of souls, guiding them through the labyrinth of paths between different realities, a figure reflecting the dreamlike world that opens up when entering the realm of Gothic music.

MORGEN WURDE

Since 2016, Georges has maintained an ongoing artistic collaboration with Kiel-based ambient producer Morgen Wurde. Together, they have composed and produced several pieces and album projects, released on labels including Off Record, MixCult Records, Frosti, Form Records and Time Released Sound. Their work brings together Morgen Wurde's electronic sound worlds with Georges's approach to the violin, extending from acoustic playing into the expanded sonic possibilities of the Augmented Violin. Over the years, the collaboration has opened an important door for Georges into the world of ambient music and developed into a sustained dialogue between composition, improvisation, electronic sound and the expressive potential of the violin.

THE DARK SIDE COWBOYS

Georges's collaboration with the Dark Side Cowboys began at an event in Sandviken, Sweden. An encounter with the band's leader, Niklas Carlsson, developed into a friendship and eventually into a musical collaboration, leading Georges to record violin for one of the band's songs.

The band's dark and atmospheric country sound fits particularly well with Georges's way of playing the violin, creating an immediate musical affinity between their music and his approach to violin sound.

SKY CAGE QUARTET

The Sky Cage Quartet was founded by trumpet player and innovator Rajesh Mehta as a project rooted in experimental jazz, avant-garde music and electronics, with influences from South Indian temple music. Georges is part of the quartet alongside Chad Popple and Keith O'Brien.

The quartet performed Mehta's compositions Sky Cage and Black Fractions, including a performance at the Moers Festival that was broadcast by ARTE Concert. The quartet released the album Malagasy Breath in 2023 on Subcontinental Records. Featuring the singing of Indri lemurs from Madagascar, the album was also featured in Rolling Stone.

AETHERNAEUM

Aethernaeum is a Berlin based Folk Black Metal band known for its nature inspired approach to Black Metal. The band released three albums between 2012 and 2015: Die Rückkehr ins Goldene Zeitalter, Wanderungen durch den Daemmerwald and Naturmystik.

Georges joined Aethernaeum as the band began working towards its comeback and a new musical direction. The new material is more abstract and atmospheric, with a stronger focus on sound colours. Georges's Augmented Violin setup is an essential part of this new approach.

REER PROJECT

REER Project was a Berlin based music duo founded by Esther Kretzinger and Georges-Emmanuel Schneider. The project explored the possibilities of combining voice, violin and computer, bringing together acoustic playing, electronic sound, samples, rhythms and analogue effects.

For their project Vexations, Georges and Esther reworked Erik Satie's music through elements of avant-garde, jazz, techno and electroacoustic music. Satie's repetitive phrases became the basis for a dense collage of contrasting sounds, including processed voice, layered analogue and digital effects on the violin, and fragments of Satie's writings on absurdism, satire and his fictional religious movement.

ARCH MUSIK / UDO SCHINDLER

Georges has collaborated with Munich based multi-instrumentalist and improviser Udo Schindler in the field of free improvisation and avant-garde jazz. Their collaboration resulted in two albums released by Creative Sources, Kontergesang and Rhizome.

The recordings explore free improvisation through the interaction of violin, live electronics and Schindler's instrumental and electronic sound palette, without relying on predetermined compositions or fixed structures.
